Crosstown Fuel Pipeline Release Remediation, Alaska

For a consortium of airline-related corporations, E & E provided turnkey environmental investigation, remediation, and litigation support services for a fuel release from the Crosstown Pipeline located beneath an intersection in Anchorage.  We designed and installed a pilot recovery system to test the efficacy of vacuum-enhanced skimming (VES) for free-product recovery from groundwater.  During the first six months of operation, the VES system collected over 2,000 gallons of petroleum product from a single test well.  The VES pilot study successfully overcame the technical difficulties typically associated with free-product recovery.  Initial data indicate that application of new technology could treat soil and groundwater contamination for less than 30% of the cost of the other remedial alternatives under consideration.
