EIS for Fermi Unit 3 Nuclear Power Plant, Michigan


E & E is part of the team that is preparing the EIS for the NRC’s evaluation of the combined license application (COLA) for a new nuclear power reactor in Monroe County, Michigan.  E & E prepared the EIS in accordance with Title 10 CFR Part 51, Environmental Protection Regulations for Domestic Licensing and Related Regulatory Functions, and NUREG-1555, Standard Review Plans for Environmental Reviews for Nuclear Power Plants: Environmental Standard Review Plan.  E & E’s socioeconomic specialist focused on assessing the impact of a 2,900-person peak construction workforce and 800-person operations workforce on the demographics, economy, housing, taxes, transportation, recreation, and public services within a multi-county impact area.  E & E’s cultural resources specialist evaluated construction and operation impacts on cultural resources and historic properties and assisted the NRC with the Section 106 compliance process.  E & E’s ecologist prepared a biological assessment and evaluated construction and operation impacts on terrestrial resources and an extensive wetlands complex.
