Galapagos Wind Energy Farm, San Cristobal Island, Galapagos
E & E conducted an environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) and oversaw the construction of a small wind farm on San Cristobal Island. The objective of the project, as conceived by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the e8 Network for Sustainable Energy Development, an organization of nine large utilities from the “G8” countries, was to develop a wind-diesel hybrid system that would reduce the demand for diesel power on the island. American Electric Power is the corporate Project Leader, with Hydro Quebec as Environmental Manager, assisted and supported by Scottish Power.
