Southern Copper Corporation (SCC) Mine Closure
This $440,000 project of Walsh Peru involves the preparation of a mine closure plan for SCC’s Toquepala, Cuajone, and Ilo Units.
The closure plan will include descriptions of all preventive, mitigation, and control measures needed to guarantee the restoration of the surrounding environment, ecosystem, and public safety in a cost-efficient manner. The recommendations will include measures for physical, geochemical, and hydrological stability; final land contouring; and promotion of revegetation and habitat rehabilitation. It will also address the requisite socio-cultural actions.
Owned by Grupo Mexico, one of the largest copper mining companies in the world, SCC is the largest mining company in Peru.
