Seismic Survey ESIAs and Sustainable Development Strategy, Loreto Province, Peru.

E & E subsidiary Walsh Peru prepared two environmental and social impact assessments (ESIAs) and the sustainable development strategy (SDS) for ConocoPhillips’ planned two-dimensional seismic survey in Blocks 129, 123 and 124.  The objective was to support client compliance with environmental protection standards set by Peruvian legislation.

The project area comprises the headwaters of the Nanay River and its main tributaries, the Pintuyacu, Chambira and Itaya Rivers.  Completion of the ESIAs required performance of two intensive field sampling programs to appropriately address the area’s high biodiversity of flora and marked diversity of fauna and their interrelationships.  The primary objective of the SDS was to help create a favorable setting for the seismic project, to help reconcile the interests of the various local stakeholders with those of the client.  To support this process, Walsh Peru developed the stakeholder management plan, as well as the strategic stakeholder relations plan.
