Engineering and Remediation
Environmental projects at the local, state, and federal level take place within highly regulated frameworks. To complete work amid regulatory constraints and avoid costly additional liabilities, companies need an environmental engineering firm that provides an objective and comprehensive approach to projects. E & E offers the full range of turnkey remedial design (RD) and construction management (CM) services and has completed more than $100 million in remedial construction/cleanup work for both private- and public-sector clients. We work closely with clients and regulators to ensure project requirements reflect low-cost, environmentally sound solutions.
Projects
McCormick and Baxter RD/RA, Oregon
Designed and implemented remedial activities for soil, groundwater, and river sediment contaminated with a variety of wood-treating chemicals at the 58-acre site. Conducted the RI for the soil operable unit, performed a human health risk assessment, and oversaw the removal of contaminated equipment and structures. Designed and implemented the excavation and disposal of 30,000 tons of highly contaminated soil. Oversaw construction of a 16-acre, impermeable cap over the most contaminated portions of the site. Constructed a fully encompassing vertical barrier wall of bentonite slurry on the upland portion of the site.
Hudson River PCB Cleanup, New York
Providing overall project management, community involvement, site investigation, facility siting, quality-of-life performance standards development, data management, and remedial design support for the EPA-required dredging action on the historic Hudson River. Operates and staffs an EPA public participation office in Fort Edward, New York.
Silvex Silver Smelting/Recovery Facility, Florida
Provided groundbreaking RD/CM and O&M services for this 32-acre silver smelting/recovery site. Design for the innovative, bioreactor groundwater treatment system involved the use of cascading air to reduce total air emissions. Use of a bioreactor instead of a conventional carbon treatment system saved the client about $1 million. As an additional cost savings, initiated phytoremediation in one approximately 100- by 300-foot area where contaminant concentrations could be effectively reduced by the strategic planting of Populus and Eucalyptus amplifolia trees to absorb contaminated water. Approach has reduced system costs by $200,000 per year.
Stormwater Mitigation/Stream Restoration Design Services for New York City Watersheds
Providing engineering support to the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYCDEP) to help protect water quality in New York City's water supply reservoir system by conducting site investigations; performing environmental analyses; and preparing designs, plans, cost estimates, and specifications for the restoration of streams, streambanks, and stormwater management facilities, including permanent erosion and sediment controls. Designs helped NYCDEP maintain a high-quality water source and assisted neighboring property owners in minimizing streambank erosion by using an environmentally friendly approach to and methods for stream design and bank stabilization.
Comments from past clients
