Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
GIS has become the standard for the management, analysis, and presentation of geospatial and environmental data. E & E's GIS specialists analyze satellite imagery of terrain, vegetation, hydrology, and soil; potential natural hazards; National Wetland Inventory maps; historic, cultural, and recreational resources; sensitive species habitat; location maps; threatened and endangered species; and wetland locations delineated in the field. We overlay environmental features on project maps to compare project alternatives, assess environmental/economic impacts and considerations for projects, conduct complex facility-siting, and support permit acquisition efforts.
Projects
Airfield Siting Study, Southeastern United States
Conducted a four-state airfield siting study for East Coast Super Hornet aircraft. Mapped and analyzed key operational and environmental criteria that included population density, wetlands, national wildlife refuges, locations of towers and airports, and other sensitive features. Used national, regional, and local databases to develop a GIS to conduct a constraints analysis that cost-effectively screened out incompatible areas.
Shiloh I Wind Farm, Visual Impact Analysis, Solano County, California
Conducted 21 visual simulations in response to concerns that the project would alter views from key view points. Created visual simulations of the wind turbines after construction. Used GIS to map the zone of visual influence around the proposed facilities.
CAMPS Planning Tool, Fort Hood, Killeen, Texas Leveraged state-of-the-art GIS applications to develop innovative customized software, Comprehensive Army Master Planning System (CAMPS), to more efficiently execute planning tasks including computer modeling/simulations depicting end-state conditions and to serve as a day-to-day implementation and maintenance tool. Facility planning information is readily accessible to support daily planning decisions—CAMPS provides cross-departmental access to the information and GIS and serves as a facilities-management tool to track about 50,000 tenants in 3,000 buildings.
Saudi Arabia Environmental Claims, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
Developed a nationwide GIS database and data repository for key project data. Established secure extranet Web site with ArcIMS interactive maps for information exchange between project team members. Used hand-held GIS ArcPAD technology in the field to automate and control field data collection.
SAGE Application (Systemwide Application for Governing Emergencies), New York City Developed a comprehensive Web-based GIS solution to help NYCDOE manage its schools and facilities during an emergency.
Municipal Planning Organizations (MPOs) Customized ArcGIS Training Classes, New York
Developed custom curriculums and used the MPOs’ own data/procedures for instructing their staff on the use of GIS. Courses include Introduction to ArcGIS, Advanced ArcGIS, Cartography in ArcGIS, Introduction to Visual Basic for Applications for ArcGIS, Advanced Visual Basic for Applications for ArcGIS and Geodatabases. E & E’s authorized instructor is teaching each of these classes at various locations throughout New York State.
Comments from past clients
“E & E has a fine and outstanding master planning, IT and GIS staff and we are just pleased as can be with them. They have been very responsive and are doing a fantastic job…they have been outstanding.” —Alan Howard, Fort Hood Master Planner
"This was a very good class. It taught me new ways to do things in ArcGIS." "Most definitely useful—very relevant—top notch instructor." "It was useful to hear the insight the instructor has had on the many projects in relation to the info presented." —Comments from E & E’s Customized Training for New York State MPOs
"When I worked with [E & E] in the past, such as during the witness interviews with city officials involved in GIS operations, [your staff] did superb fact finding work that could be of high value for us. [E & E] has an ability to explain technical matters in a way that the layman can understand.” —Brian Lieberman, Attorney, Patton Boggs
