Provided scientific support in defense of several claims alleging overexposure to stainless steel and abrasive material during grinding and polishing of stainless steel articles. Reviewed medical reports from, evaluated scientific literature, identified appropriate expert witnesses, participated in courtroom activities, and prepared a video tape showing that workplace exposures were minimal. Multimillion-dollar claim was disallowed.
Monitoring, Closure, and Litigation Support after PVC Plant Explosion, Illinois
Conducted computer simulation of plume dispersion impacts associated with the explosion and subsequent fire to identify the location of maximum predicted air quality impacts and help establish appropriate sampling locations. Proposed closure standards based on risk parameters that would save the client considerable money.
Caribou Reservoir Environmental Uptake Analysis, California
Following a PCB transformer spill in a designated scenic waterway, developed a thorough environmental uptake analysis and negotiated a biomonitoring program as an alternative to a $6-million dredge and disposal program ordered by the State Water Board. Following our testimony, final consent order was entered, requiring no further dredging and endorsing existing post-spill contamination levels as appropriate clean-up levels.
Crosstown Fuel Pipeline Release Investigation, Remediation, and Litigation Support, Alaska
Provided turnkey environmental investigation, remediation, and litigation support services for a fuel release beneath the intersection in Anchorage. Used analytical “fingerprinting” techniques to assist defense attorneys in determining the source of anomalous petroleum sources. Implemented a state-of-the-art free product recovery system, which has the potential to reduce the client’s remediation costs by two-thirds.
WTC Health Claim Evaluations, New York City
Working with legal counsel to defend several thousand pending and potential claims alleging health injuries and environmental and property damage resulting from the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. Databases of location-specific information on exposure and potential adverse effects used to analyze plaintiff-specific allegations of injury. Prepared deposition/interrogatory questions, identified testifying experts, evaluated medical records, investigated indoor air exposures, and prepared Daubert challenges.
