Sustainable Development
Companies worldwide understand the importance of balancing growth and sustainable practices. Adoption of stricter regulations and international treaties, pressure from nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), and the advent of socially responsible investing have given rise to the notion that projects can no longer merely "cause no harm." Rather, they must "do good." E & E works with our clients to develop, plan, and execute innovative, environmentally sustainable projects. We focus on forward-thinking, ecologically, socially, and economically sustainable solutions to resolve past, present, and potential future environmental problems.
Projects
Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and Sustainable Development Practices for Offshore Oil Exploration, Venezuela
For Statoil, prepared an ESIA that included integrated biodiversity components. Prepared stakeholder engagement plan and facilitated consultation with communities in Punta Pescador. Facilitated the client's design of projects to support more sustainable fishing practices in northeastern Venezuela.
Sustainable Planning for US Army, Fort Hood, Killeen, Texas
Preparing a sustainable installation design guide as part of Fort Hood's Real Property Management Plan, which will guide the installation's development along a more sustainable path over the next 20 years. Provides specific sustainable design/development standards and criteria for site and master planning; building design, circulation, and landscaping; site elements; force protection; flight line facilities, housing, roads, and utilities at the installation; storm water management; water, energy, and materials conservation; and the natural recruitment of vegetation in large open-space areas.
3-D Seismic Activity in the Tropical Rainforest, Ecuador
For a Shell/Mobil (consortium), developed a new method of using multitemporal comparisons of satellite images to reduce deforestation impacts of 3-D seismic exploration in the mature and high-diversity tropical rainforest. Received the Best Environmental Project award for 2004 by the Energy Institute in London for "Reducing the Footprint of 3-D Seismic Activity in the Tropical Rainforest of Ecuador."
Biodiversity Guidance Document, Worldwide
Developed a biodiversity guidance document to help Chevron incorporate biodiversity into its existing Operational Excellence Management Systems for new projects and existing operations worldwide.
Sustainable Development Strategy/Biodiversity Action Plan, ConocoPhillips, Gulf of Paria
Helped integrate sustainable project components into the EIA process typical of large oil and gas developments. Completed a biodiversity evaluation and developed the initial biodiversity action plan to minimize impacts on biodiversity in an ecologically sensitive and internationally significant region. Updated ConocoPhillips's 2002 and 2003 GOP Locality Management Strategy for sustainable development.
