Environmental Restoration

Environmental Restoration

In order to avoid project-related environmental impacts, E & E conceives and designs environmental restoration projects that restore the functions of the affected habitat through the efficient and innovative integration of biological and engineering solutions. We have implemented numerous award-winning solutions demonstrating that human development and ecological preservation don't have to be at odds.

Projects

Columbia Slough Sediment Remediation, Oregon
Evaluated the extent of sediment contamination and the impact on the ecological receptors in this waterway, which are essential to the commerce and ecology of the city of Portland. Designed and overseeing implementation of innovative measures to eliminate the contaminated sediments that pose a threat to the surrounding community.

Constructed Treatment Wetlands, Michigan
Used constructed wetlands to remove low levels of hazardous waste contamination in groundwater. Integrated natural processes in the treatment and uptake of hazardous constituents. Integrated habitat restoration and waste treatment to create a cost-effective and ecologically beneficial solution.

Eighteenmile Creek Streambank and Habitat Restoration, New York
Designed and implemented an innovative solution to restore an important water feature to serve the multiple purposes of water supply, flood control, and habitat preservation at this Great Lakes Area of Concern.  Received New York State Governor’s Waterfront Re-Discovery Award and 2004 Team Excellence Award of the Natural Resources Conservation Service.

Hurricane-Related Wildlife Refuge Cleanups, Louisiana
Worked with representatives from USCG, USFWS, and EPA to complete aerial assessments, categorizations, and planning for treatment of refuges where Hurricanes Katrina and Rita caused extensive damage—saltwater intrusion, exposure to ocean tides, and conversion to open water resulted in contamination of freshwater marshes that once served as nurseries for migratory waterfowl and important commercial fish species. Received USFWS Regional Director's Award for Excellence.

Wetland Mitigation Banking, Florida and Alabama
Restoring and preserving natural wetland areas to create mitigation credits to be sold to project developers when negative impacts on wetlands are unavoidable.
